Syria: Red Cross appeal to donor countries 2013 funds depleteed, ICRC helped 2.7+ million Syrians...

(ANSAmed) - GENEVA, APRIL 16 - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has almost depleted its Syria funds for 2013 and will soon launch another appeal to donor countries, CICR President Peter Maurer said on Tuesday.

Syria is the ICRC's biggest humanitarian operation, and of its 25 convoys that left Damascus for the front, just 11 reached opposition-controlled territories, Maurer said.

Working with the International Red Crescent, the ICRC has delivered food to 617,000 people and other prime necessities and medicines to 204,000 people in Syria since the beginning of the year. The ICRC has also delivered equipment guaranteeing access to drinking water to 2.7 million people.
