(ANSA) - DAMASCO, 31 GEN - Il governo siriano si è rivolto oggi all'Onu perche' non si ripeta "la violazione israeliana" e invoca un intervento di non meglio precisate "forze internazionali". E' quanto afferma la TV di Stato siriana, con una scritta in sovrimpressione, citando una nota del ministero degli esteri di Damasco.

(ANSA) - MOSCA, 31 GEN - La Russia si e' detta ''molto preoccupata'' per le notizie di un raid israeliano in territorio siriano, indicando che questa azione - se venisse confermata - sarebbe un'interferenza militare inaccettabile.

Ieri sera l'esercito siriano ha denunciato ufficialmente un raid israeliano - alle prime ore dell'alba - contro un centro di ricerche militari che avrebbe provocato due morti e cinque feriti....

Siria, Israele colpisce convoglio armi a frontiera con Libano...

BEIRUT/AMMAN (Reuters) - Aerei da guerra israeliani hanno bombardato un convoglio in Siria vicino alla frontiera con il Libano, apparentemente per colpire armi destinate agli Hezbollah in quello che secondo alcuni è un avvertimento a Damasco, riferiscono fonti a Reuters.

La televisione di stato siriana ha accusato Israele di aver bombardato un centro di ricerca militare a Jamraya, tra Damasco e la vicina frontiera, ma ribelli siriani smentiscono, dicendo che sono state le loro forze ad attaccare il sito. Nessuna fonte ha parlato di un secondo attacco israeliano.

"L'obiettivo era un camion carico di armi, diretto dalla Siria al Libano", ha detto un diplomatico occidentale, facendo eco ad altri secondo i quali il carico del convoglio probabilmente comprendeva missili antiaerei o razzi a lungo raggio. Divere fonti escludono la presenza nel convoglio di armi chimiche.

Fonti diplomatiche di tre Paesi hanno detto a Reuters che si ritiene che armi chimiche fossero stoccate a Jamraya, e che è possibile che il convoglio fosse vicino al sito quando ieri è stato attaccato.

L'episodio ha fatto seguito agli avvertimenti di Israele di essere pronto ad agire per impedire che a causa della rivolta contro il presidente Bashar al-Assad armi chimiche e razzi moderni arrivino ai suoi alleati Hezbollah o ai suoi nemici islamici.

Putin schiera la flotta navale davanti alla Siria...

E' chiaro non si tratta di una solita esercitazione. Non si dovrebbe trattare neppure della preparazione di una possibile evacuazione di 30 mila russi con le loro famiglie dalla Siria dal momento che i russi ribadiscono che per il momento non c’é alcuna intenzione nè bisogno di evacuare questa massa di civili.

Si tratta, piuttosto, certo di un avvertimento all’America,  all’Europa e alla Turchia di non intervenire militarmente in Siria.

Ancora più chiara é l’intenzione di Mosca di dimostrare ai paesi della regione che la Russia é tornata ad essere una grande potenza in questo settore.

Meno chiare sono le vere intenzioni. Una potrebbe essere la messa a punto di una operazione di controllo sui depositi di armamenti chimici siriani che i russi temono possano cadere nelle mani di elementi islamici radicali dando all’America, ma anche a Israele, la giustificazione per un intervento in Siria. Le truppe speciali  inglesi, francesi e probabilmente israeliani agiscono già  sul suolo siriano.

Non si deve dimenticare il ruolo storico dell’URSS nei  paesi arabi: Egitto, Siria, Libia di Gheddafi, Cipro comunista. Questo ruolo é stato minimizzato dagli avvenimenti, dalle rivolte arabe,  dalle ambizioni nucleari dell’Iran. Ricordare a tutti i paesi del Mediterraneo meridionale e orientale che la Russia esiste e che non si può fare nulla in questo teatro (incluso nel caso delle minacce turche contro Cipro per le ricerche petrolifere sottomarine in collaborazione con Israele) può essere uno degli scopi di questo spiegamento di forzaenavali.

In questo contesto é possibile interpretare l’azione  russa come una posta che Mosca pone sul tavolo dei negoziati per l’eventuale spartizione di zone di reciproca influenza nella Siria del dopo Assad. Si parla infatti sempre di più a Ankara, a Gerusalemme, a  Beirut e a Bagdad di una regione  Alawita siriana su cui Russia e Iran manterrebbero una presenza riconosciuta dall’Europa e dall’America.

Tutto questo é ancora da considerarsi oggetto di speculazione mentre in Siria i massacri continuano. Ma non si può evitare di pensare –con tutte le differenze che il passaggio del tempo ha creato – di un ritorno nel Mediterraneo orientale di quel conflitto di interessi, di religioni, di ideologie che per quasi due secoli hanno agitato il Levante in quella che storici e diplomatici hanno chiamato  (guerra di Crimea inclusa) la “Questione Orientale “. La si  credeva spenta con la morte del “grande malato” d’Europa, l’Impero ottomano, ma “ i malati” siriano e egiziano potrebbero esserne gli involontari eredi.

(ANSA) - NEW YORK, 29 GEN - La Siria "sta andando a pezzi sotto gli occhi del mondo". Lo ha detto al Consiglio di Sicurezza l'inviato speciale dell'Onu Lakhdar Brahimi. Brahimi, che ha incontrato il Consiglio a porte chiuse, ha riferito che il presidente siriano al Assad "potrà anche riuscire a restare al potere per ora, ma il Paese sta andando a pezzi davanti a tutti". Secondo l'inviato dell'Onu e della Lega Araba la legittimità del regime siriano è stata "gravemente, forse irrimediabilmente danneggiata".....

Siria, donatori promettono oltre 1 mld dollari per rifugiati....

KUWAIT (Reuters) - I donatori oggi hanno promesso oltre un miliardo di dollari in una conferenza internazionale in Kuwait per i rifugiati siriani prodotti da quasi due anni di conflitto. Lo ha detto un ministro kuwaitiano, citato dall'agenzia stampa statale Kuna.

Il ministro per gli Affari di governo Mohammad Abdullah al-Mubarak al-Sabah ha detto ai giornalisti di sperare che le offerte in totale raggiungano l'obiettivo, fissato dalle Nazioni Unite, di 1,5 miliardi di dollari......

"E' stato colpito un obiettivo nell'area", afferma una fonte. I jet israeliani "hanno colpito un convoglio di armi" che si muoveva "nei pressi del confine tra Siria e Libano", afferma invece il sito al-Monitor, basato in Usa, citando anonime fonti di Beirut......

In Syria's Aleppo, a horrific new massacre

ALEPPO, Syria — The volunteer lifts the corpse into a truck where a dozen already lie. As he does, the stretchers come one after another, each carrying another body retrieved from the river, most bearing gunshots to the head.

"We do not know who they are -- they were not carrying papers," he laments.

At the bank of the river in northern Syria, dozens of bodies in civilian clothes lie lifeless, covered in mud. Many of them bear wounds indicating gunshots at close range, and so are unrecognisable.

"We will take them to families to identify them," rebel captain Abu Sada offers. "Those who we cannot identify, we will bury in a common grave."

The bodies are among those of nearly 80 young men, all executed with a single gunshot to the head and neck, that were recovered on Tuesday from Quweiq River, which runs through Aleppo city.

A monitoring group said the death toll was at least 65, but added it could still rise significantly, and a rebel fighter put the figure at 78 dead, with more bodies still being retrieved from the water.

Near the river, hundreds of residents flock to the scene to see if they can spot a father, a brother, a son, or a husband.

"My brother disappeared weeks ago when he was crossing (through) the regime-held zone, and we don't know where he is or what has become of him," said Mohammed Abdel Aziz.

"It's possible he's here," he adds as he inspects a body covered in mud.

According to Abu Sada, around 30 bodies are still in the river, but cannot be recovered because of regime snipers positioned in a nearby neighbourhood.

"There must be over 100 -- many are still in the river, and we will try to retrieve them," he says.

Abu Anas, another rebel fighter, notes this is not the first time he and his comrades have discovered multiple corpses at the same time, but adds, "never this many".

The bodies are taken to a school in the Yarmuk neighbourhood, and placed on the ground, covered with a blue cloth.

Each has a number beside it.

A nurse inspecting the bodies says, "There are those who drowned because the were shot in the legs or abdomen before being thrown into the water," and notes that some of the victims may have been killed as far back as three days ago.

In the school yard, the smell is nauseating, and families pass in front of the bodies, covering their faces with tissues or their clothes.

Only the faces of the victims are visible to passers-by, so they can be identified and buried.

"These are civilians -- there is a child among them who was also executed in cold blood," says Abu Saij, a rebel fighter. "Ordinarily, we would retrieve two or three bodies in a day -- never before have we seen such a thing."

"Yesterday, they (pro-regime forces) were unable to take control of Bustan al-Qasr (a neighbourhood in southwest Aleppo), and so they took revenge," Abu Saij continues.

"Some of these corpses date back several days, but most were executed recently."

A senior government security source said many of the victims were from Bustan al-Qasr and had been reported kidnapped earlier.

He accused "terrorists," the standard regime term for people fighting to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad, of the killings and spreading propaganda to deflect responsibility.

But Abu Saij insists rebels are not to blame.

"The regime threw them into the river so that they would arrive in an area under our control, so the people would think we killed them," he says.

Crisi siriana...

La crisi in Siria "peggiora di giorno in giorno, causando enormi sofferenze alla popolazione", per questo la Commissione Ue nel 2013 è pronta a sborsare 100 milioni di euro per fornire assistenza umanitaria. L'annuncio arriva dal commissario agli Aiuti umanitari, Kristalina Georgieva, in vista della Conferenza internazionale dei donatori per la Siria convocata per domani in Kuwait dall'Onu.

"Dobbiamo fare di più", ha detto Georgieva rivolgendosi alla comunità internazionale e rilanciando l'appello a tutte le parti coinvolte nel conflitto per dare accesso agli operatori umanitari, che ancora non riescono ad arrivare in diverse aree all'interno del Paese. "Per favore lasciateci fare il nostro lavoro", ha chiesto la commissaria europea, secondo cui gli ulteriori 100 milioni di euro di aiuti europei "sono disperatamente necessari" sia per i siriani all'interno del Paese "affamati, al freddo e spaventati", sia per quelli che sono riusciti a varcare i confini e sono giunti in Libano, Giordania, Turchia e Iraq. I fondi europei sono destinati per assistere quattro milioni di persone in difficoltà in Siria, inclusi due milioni di sfollati e 700mila rifugiati. Questi ultimi, secondo l'Onu, potrebbero diventare 1,7 milioni già a metà 2013. Insieme ai 100 milioni di euro già impegnati per il 2011 e il 2012, i finanziamenti della Commissione europea per l'assistenza umanitaria in Siria arrivano così a quota 200 milioni di euro. "Contando anche i finanziamenti da parte di 23 Stati membri, il sostegno dell'Ue arriva a 360 milioni, cioé oltre la metà di tutti gli aiuti per la Siria", ha spiegato Georgieva....

(ANSA) - ROMA, 29 GEN - ''Centinaia di persone sarebbero fuggite da Kidal negli ultimi giorni verso villaggi piu' a nord, a ridosso del confine con l'Algeria'' e ''altri hanno attraversato il confine, nonostante sia ufficialmente chiuso''.

E' quanto rende noto l'Alto Commissariato dell'Onu per i Rifugiati (Unhcr) secondo il quale, complessivamente, ''dall'inizio del conflitto'', nei primi mesi del 2012, ''circa 350mila sono fuggite dal nord del Mali''.....

I cadaveri di almeno 68 persone, giovani uomini e ragazzi, sono stati trovati in un fiume ad Aleppo, in quella che appare una brutale esecuzione di massa. Sembra che le vittime, in gran parte adolescenti, colpite alla testa o al collo, siano state uccise con una sola raffica di arma da fuoco.  

Il ritrovamento dei cadaveri è avvenuto nel fiume Qewaq, che separa il distretto di Bustan al-Qasr da Ansari, nella parte sud-occidentale della città, ha riferito l’Osservatorio siriano per i diritti umani. Secondo fonti dell’Esercito libero siriano le vittime potrebbero essere più di 100: c’è la certezza infatti che altri cadaveri possano affiorare dalle acque del fiume.  

Oggi, intanto, i ribelli siriani sono riusciti a conquistare il ponte di Siyasiyeh, nei pressi della città di Deir Ezzor, nella parte orientale del paese. A dare la notizia è l’Osservatorio siriano per i diritti umani. La conquista del ponte, che attraversa il fiume Eufrate, permetterebbe ai ribelli di tagliare i rifornimenti alle truppe di Assad, che ancora controllano la città di Deir Ezzor e che hanno immediatamente reagito, stando a quanto riferito dagli attivisti, con nuovi bombardamenti nella zona.  

A Damasco, invece, due autobomba sono esplose questa mattina nel centro moderno, nei pressi di una postazione di miliziani lealisti. Lo riferiscono testimoni oculari al Comitato locale di coordinamento degli attivisti anti-regime. Non si hanno ancora notizie circa l’eventuale numero di vittime. 

La rivolta che da 21 mesi semina orrore e sangue in Siria non ha però impedito a Bashar al-Assad di concepire il suo quarto figlio: lo avrebbe annunciato lo stesso presidente siriano ad alcuni «visitatori arabi». Secondo quanto scrive un giornale libanese filo-regimme, al-Akhabar, la moglie 37enne di Assad, Asma, è al quinto mese di gravidanza e quindi a giugno dovrebbe nascere il loro quarto erede, dopo l’undicenne Hafez, Karim di otto anni e la femminuccia Zein di nove. Nelle ultime settimane sono circolate voci su una possibile fuga all’estero di Asma, una cittadina britannica di origini siriane, ma non hanno mai trovato conferma. 

Secondo il quotidiano, i “visitatori” hanno descritto la vita di Assad nel castello di Rawda, a Damasco, come circondata dagli agi. Assad ha aggiunto ai «visitatori» che il suo esercito sta raggiungendo «importanti risultati» nel soffocare la rivolta che presto saranno visibili a tutti.

Siria: Unhcr, oltre 700mila i rifugiati....

(ANSA) - GINEVRA, 29 GEN – Sono piu' di 700mila i siriani fuggiti dalla violenza e giunti nei Paesi vicini. Secondo gli ultimi dati dell'Alto commissariato Onu per i rifugiati (Unhcr) il numero totale dei rifugiati siriani registrati in attesa di esserlo e' salito a 708.477. Di questi piu' di 171mila sono in Giordania, 163mila in Turchia, 158mila in Libano, 77mila in Iraq e 14mila in Egitto....

Bonjour !

Hier, j’étais avec une amie dans la banlieue de Damas, en visite chez une de nos connaissances. Cette dernière nous a proposé d’aller présenter nos condoléances à la mère d’un jeune homme tué une semaine plus tôt. C’était difficile de dire non. On a apporté des fleurs, car c’était la fête des mères. Elle s'est assise en face de nous. Pour engager la conversation, on lui a demandé ce qui s’était passé. Elle a répondu qu’on ne lui avait pas encore rendu le corps de son fils. Les notables de la ville étaient allés au siège des mukhabarat et à l’hôpital militaire, où il était peut-être décédé, mais ils s’étaient entendu répondre qu’il n’était pas chez eux. Ils avaient interrogé tous les services des mukhabarat et tous les hôpitaux, mais tous avaient nié retenir le jeune homme ou être en possession de son cadavre. Elle nous a raconté qu’il avait déjà été arrêté deux fois, et que les traces des tortures étaient toujours visibles sur son corps.

"Il m’a dit, un jour, qu’il valait mille fois mieux mourir que d’être arrêté. La troisième fois qu’ils sont venus le chercher, il s’est enfui de la maison. Il s’est caché dans une ferme avec quelques amis. Mais les forces de sécurité les ont encerclés. Ils ont essayé de se sauver en voiture, mais ils ont été touchés par un tir de mortier. Quatre d’entre eux, qui étaient assis sur la banquette arrière, ont été tués sur le coup. Ils n’étaient plus que trois, dont lui. Mais il était blessé et il saignait. Il a dit à ses amis, qui l’avaient porté sur une certaine distance : "Laissez-moi et sauvez-vous. Mieux vaut que deux continuent à vivre plutôt que nous mourrions tous les trois". Alors ils l'ont laissé réciter les deux chahadas, et ils se sont enfuis. C’est par eux que j’ai appris l’histoire". Les mêmes jeunes gens avaient raconté à sa mère que, sur le chemin, ils avaient vu un gardien qui travaillait dans une ferme proche. Ils lui avaient confié le blessé. La mère était allée interroger cet homme. Il lui avait répondu que les chars avaient emporté le jeune homme avec eux.

Elle n’a pas revu le corps de son fils. Elle ne sait pas où il se trouve. Elle conclut son histoire par un long soupir. Puis elle nous regarde et elle dit : "Peut-être est-il vivant... Peut-être a-t-il réussi à s’enfuir tout seul... Peut-être le gardien l’a-t-il recueilli et soigné sans me le dire... Peut-être, dans le char, y avait-il un soldat qui était bon, qui a compati, qui l’a emmené quelque part où on l’a soigné..." Puis elle baisse la tête et les larmes coulent de ses yeux : "Ou bien peut-être qu’il est mort, et qu’ils ont utilisé son corps pour les explosions de la place Tahrir… Parfois, je me dis qu’ils ont peut-être pris ses organes, puisqu’il était encore vivant. Ou alors, peut-être que…" Ses larmes l’étouffent, et nous pleurons toutes avec elle. Oui, toutes ces éventualités sont vraisemblables.

Et peut-être cela n’arrive-t-il qu’en Syrie.

(ANSA) - BEIRUT, 28 GEN - Si combatte attorno all'aeroporto internazionale di Damasco, a sud-est della capitale: lo riferiscono i Comitati di coordinamento locale degli attivisti anti-regime che hanno diffuso anche il bollettino provvisorio degli uccisi nelle violenze odierne: almeno 46 morti, tra cui sei minori e una donna. La tv di Stato siriana afferma che i ''valorosi soldati dell'esercito hanno ucciso numerosi terroristi'' nella regione di Hama e in quella di Idlib.

Syrian girls 'sold' into force marriages

Syrian women and girls, some as young as 14 years old, are being 'sold' into forced marriages or prostitution after becoming refugees, aid workers and religious charities have said.


In Jordan, hundreds of Syrian females have been affected by an informal trade that has sprung up since the start of the war in Syria, where men use "agents" to source Syrian refugees to use for sex.

Often this is done under the guise of "marriage": The 'dowry', which in Muslim society is traditionally paid by the groom as a guarantee of the bride's security has become a payment for sex. And the "marriage", is an affair that lasts only a few days or even hours.


"We realised these were Mut'ah or 'pleasure marriages'," said Ziyad Hamad, whose charity, Kitab al-Sunna, is one of the largest organisations working with Syrian refugees in Jordan. "It is a fake marriage; they use handwritten documents that are not registered by a Shiekh [religious leader].


Men travelled from Saudi Arabia and other countries to marry girls in the camps. They would pay rent for a home outside the camp and tell the women they would support them. Then they would have sex with them and divorce them one week later."


Mr Hamad said: "They would tell them: 'we will marry you like this now and then formalise it when we go to Saudi Arabia.' But then they would leave and change their phone numbers. Many Syrian girls have been impregnated and abandoned in this way."



Many of the young girls are sourced from refugee camps in Jordan that house more than 120,000 Syrian refugees.

Sexual violence and trafficking have become two grim realities of modern day warfare. During the Iraq war thousands of Iraqi girls that fled to Syria ended up being pushed into the sex trade.

The International Rescue Committee recently published a report that found rape is now a "significant and disturbing" feature of the Syrian civil war, with women and girls citing this as a principle motive for escaping from the country.

Even once they have left Syria though, they are not safe. Sitting in a flimsy dust covered tent in the crowded Zataari refugee camp, Zainab, an elderly mother of two daughters said: "Men are coming here to take young girls as second wives. It is under the pretext of being charitable, of helping us."

One of Zainab's nieces, a pretty slender young woman in her early twenties said she had received four marriage offers since arriving in the camp two months previously. Some were from Syrian families that she knew, but others were from complete strangers she said.

Guards at Zataari camp told The Daily Telegraph that they had frequently received requests by Arab men, mainly from Jordan or Saudi Arabia, to be given access to the camp so that they could find a "nice young bride".

United Nations officials and aid agencies estimate that at least 500 under age Syrians have been married this year.

Sexual exploitation of women has become a sad reality that accompanies wars in the Middle East. Tens of thousands of young girls were funnelled into the sex trade after they fled to Syria from Iraq after the 2003 invasion.

More overt prostitution is also common among Syrian refugees said Wissam, a Jordanian resident who knows people involved in the trade: "There is a women who acts like an agent, bringing the girls from the camps. The normal cost for one hour with a Syrian girl is 50JD, but if she only recently lost her virginity then you pay 100JD".

One French aid worker inside Zataari camp said a woman in the camp regularly offers girls to the camp's security guards.

The practice has caused outrage among the Syrian refugee community and in wider Jordanian society.

Mr Hamad's charity has become one of the bodies connecting male suitors with Syrian brides, but he insists that the practice is not abusive because of the strict restrictions in place: "We initially issued a statement in newspapers and on websites saying we would not accept requests from Arab men to marry these girls. But that backfired; we became flooded with more requests! I then realised that many of these men have genuine intentions."

The charity says it has married Syrian women to Muslim men from across the Arab world and from European countries, including Britain and France: "Most of our requests came from France. Sheikhs there called me and told me that I could not refuse to help with the marriages. They have good intentions and we only put them in contact with women if they abide by strict regulations that guarantee her well-being."

Agencies have sprung up in Jordan and in countries as far away as Libya, to match men with their Syrian women. "Men bargain a price for the girl, then the agency sends a woman employee into the camp and meet with the family of a girl to see if they will accept that price," said a Syrian woman who did not want to be named, who works for a women's rights' organisation.

Living in squalid conditions and deeply traumatised by their experiences in the Syrian civil war, many families see marrying their daughters to wealthy strangers as the best chance their daughters have at a normal life, an aid worker in Zataari camp who did not want to be named told the Daily Telegraph.

The Daily Telegraph followed Wissam as he posed as a client interested in marrying a girl: "I want a cheap Syrian girl," said Wissam, with his phone on loudspeaker. "In Zarqa we have married 16 for a dowry cost of 2000JD," came the reply. The men proceeded to bargain, with Wissam quoting lower figures than he said he had been offered in other camps.

"Before the revolution it cost several times that sum to marry a Syrian girl. Now it has become the running joke in Jordan that if you are running low on cash or finding it hard to get married, you should marry a Syrian girl," said Wissam. "It has become a business transaction".

Siria:Oms;allarme sanitario,55%ospedali distrutto o ha danni....

(ANSA) - MILANO, 28 GEN - Dopo 22 mesi di conflitto armato, in Siria e' allarme sanitario: il 55% degli ospedali pubblici e il 10% dei centri di salute pubblica e' danneggiato in modo grave o e' distrutto, gli ospedali rimasti sono sovraffollati, e scarseggiano i farmaci salvavita, soprattutto per le malattie croniche. Gli stabilimenti farmaceutici che producevano il 90% dei medicinali del Paese e i fornitori non stanno piu' lavorando, e scarseggiano i farmaci. A spiegarlo e' l'Organizzazione mondiale della sanita' (Oms). La distruzione e i danni a cliniche e ospedali hanno un impatto tragico sulla vita di tutti i giorni dei siriani. I pazienti con malattie croniche non possono fare visite regolari agli ospedali per ricevere le terapie, e l'accesso limitato alle strutture sanitarie, per ragioni di sicurezza o il loro spostamento in aree meno pericolose, rende molto difficile l'accesso alle terapie salva-vita. Nel governatorato di al-Raqqa, che ospita 500mila sfollati, il numero di pazienti diabetici e' passato da 10mila a 21mila, senza la possibilita' di avere scorte aggiuntive di farmaci. Nel centro al-Thanaa di emodialisi a Damasco, il numero di sessioni libere e' sceso da 3 a 2 per settimane, per la scarsita' di macchine e scorte. Joseph, un bambino di 6 anni cui e' stata diagnosticata la leucemia all'inizio del 2012, e' fuggito con la famiglia da Dara e ora vive vicino Damasco. Ma a causa della mancanza di farmaci anti-cancro, non puo' ricevere trattamenti continui. ''Non siamo in grado di assicurargli le sue medicine per i prossimi tre mesi'', spiega il padre. Ad Abdo, 5 anni, e' stato diagnosticato invece un neuroblastoma nel 2011, vicino il rene e l'aorta. Dei 4 cicli di chemioterapia necessari, finora ne ha ricevuti due.

Il ministero della Salute deve assicurare gratuitamente i farmaci, ma le sanzioni economiche e i danni agli ospedali rendono tutto difficile e le possibilita' per lui di ricevere i trattamenti necessari diminuiscono sempre di piu'. (ANSA).

Mursi declares state of emergency, curfew in restive provinces...

President Mohamed Mursi Sunday declared a state of emergency in three provinces hit by rioting which has left dozens dead, warning he was ready to take further steps to confront threats to Egypt's security.

Emergency measures would come into effect in the provinces of Port Said, Suez and Ismailia "for 30 days starting at midnight (2200 GMT Sunday)," Mursi said in an address on state television.

Curfews would be imposed on the same three provinces from 9:00 pm until 6:00 am, he added.

"I have said I am against any emergency measures but I have said that if I must stop bloodshed and protect the people then I will act," Mursi said.

He warned that he was ready to take further measures if the deadly violence that swept over Egypt since Friday does not end.

"If I must I will do much more for the sake of Egypt. This is my duty and I will not hesitate," the president warned.

He also held out an olive branch to the opposition and political leaders across Egypt, inviting them for talks on Monday, saying "there is no alternative to dialogue."

"I have decided to invite all political leaders to a dialogue tomorrow. A presidential statement with all the details will be issued later," Mursi said.

"There is no going back to freedom and democracy... the rule of law and social justice that the revolution has paved."

His comments came after rioting sparked by death sentences being passed on fans of a local football team rocked Egypt's Port Said for a second straight day on Sunday, leaving another six people dead and more than 460 injured, medics said.

Morsi insisted that the verdicts that triggered the violence "must be respected by all of us."

He condemned the violence as "a violation of the law and a violation of the revolution."

The president also said he had instructed the interior ministry to "use all decisive force against those who attack the security of the people, government buildings, those who use weapons, block roads, those who throw stones on innocents..."

Beirut, 27 gen. (TMNews) - Scontri sono scoppiati tra le forze di Bashar al Assad e FSA nei pressi di una stazione ferroviaria nel sud di Damasco. L'aviazione ha continuato a bombardare le posizioni dei militanti a est della capitale, secondo l'Osservatorio siriano per i diritti umani. Le violenze sono scoppiate nella zona di Port Said e si sono estese al quartieri della stazione di Qadam, nel mirino dei raid aerei del regime, che hanno colpito anche il vicino quartiere di Assali, secondo l'ong. I combattimenti hanno portato alla chiusura di un'autostrada strategica che collega la capitale alla provincia di Deraa, nel sud....

Sutuazione in Siria...

Sono passati quasi due anni dall'inizio di questo conflitto....era iniziata come una protesta pacifica...lentamente ma inesorabilmente e' diventata una guerra...un eccidio...centinaia di migliaia tra profughi...feriti...morti...

La situazione in Siria e' drammatica...la gente e' divisa tra chi vorrebbe un cambiamento politico (soprattutto i giovani) e chi invece teme che il cambiamento non porti nulla di buono...
La gente...l'opinione pubblica internazionale si chiede chi sono i buoni e chi sono i cattivi...e' un momento di grande confusione..
e come se non bastasse la soluzione militare e' in situazione di stallo...nessuna delle due fazioni a confronto fa passi significativi nel controllo del territorio...
Intanto il generale inverno ha messo la popolazione in ginocchio...non c'e' cibo...elettricita'...acqua...la gente e' allo stremo delle forze...
ma cosa si aspetta a trovare una soluzione? che si arrivi a 100.000 morti ?

Un missile sparato da un aereo da guerra  è atterrato questo pomeriggio nel cuore di Manbej accanto ad un giardino pubblico. L'area era affollata.... Sono morte almeno 20 persone, tra cui donne e bambini.... Decine i feriti....

First NATO Patriot battery in Turkey operational
MONS, Belgium — The first of six Patriot missile batteries deploying to Turkey was declared operational and placed under the command and control of NATO on Saturday, 26 January.

The battery, provided by the Netherlands, will help to protect the city and people of Adana against missile threats.

"NATO Allies asked us to augment Turkey's air defence capabilities in December, and we are delivering operational forces in January," said Admiral James Stavridis, NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe. "Thanks to the hard work of the nations providing Patriot systems, the expertise of communications specialists from six NATO nations, and the diligent planning of multinational military staff at Air Command Ramstein in Germany and at SHAPE Headquarters in Belgium, we have established this defensive capability promptly," Admiral Stavridis added.

Allies have committed to a total of six Patriot batteries to augment Turkey's air defences. The other five batteries are expected to be in place and operational in the coming days.

In response to Turkey’s request, NATO Foreign Ministers decided on 4 December 2012 that NATO would “augment Turkey’s air defence capabilities in order to defend the population and territory of Turkey and contribute to the de-escalation of the crisis along the Alliance’s border.”

"This is a clear demonstration of the agility and flexibility of NATO forces and of our willingness to defend Allies who face threats in an unstable world," said Admiral Stavridis.

Patriot systems will be deployed to help protect the Turkish cities of Kahramanmaras, Adana, and Gaziantep. This deployment is defensive only. It will in no way support a no-fly zone or any offensive operation....

Attack on Syria would be seen as attack on Iran: Tehran...

Reuters) - Iran would consider any attack on Syria an attack on itself, a senior government official was quoted as saying on Saturday, in one of Tehran's most assertive defenses of its ally yet.

Iran is a key supporter of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad who is fighting a near two-year-long revolt. Tehran has already repeatedly warned the West against intervening in the conflict against Assad.

"Syria has a very basic and key role in the region for promoting firm policies of resistance ... For this reason an attack on Syria would be considered an attack on Iran and Iran's allies," said Ali Akbar Velayati, an aide to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to the Mehr news agency.

Tehran sees Damascus as part of an axis of opposition to Israeli and Western influence in the Middle East.

In September, an Iranian military official was quoted as saying Iran would take action if the United States was to attack Syria.

Shi'ite Muslim power Iran and Syria, whose leader follows an offshoot of Shi'ite Islam, signed a mutual defense pact in 2006, but little is known of its details or whether there are any other signatories.

Iran accuses Western powers and regional states of supporting and arming the Syrian rebels, while the rebels accuse Iran of sending fighters from its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to help Assad crush the uprising.

Damasco (Siria), 25 gen. (LaPresse/AP) - Il regime siriano ha invitato le centinaia di migliaia di profughi a fare ritorno nel Paese. Il governo, ha riferito l'agenzia di stampa ufficiale Sana, aiuterà i cittadini a tornare, indipendentemente dal fatto che abbiano lasciato il Paese "legalmente o illegalmente". La possibilità di ritorno, ha precisato l'agenzia, è aperta anche a esponenti dell'opposizione che vogliono prendere parte ai colloqui di riconciliazione. I colloqui fanno parte di un'iniziativa del presidente Bashar Assad mirata a porre fine al conflitto, in cui hanno perso la vita oltre 60mila persone. L'opposizione ha tuttavia respinto la proposta, chiedendo le dimissioni di Assad. Più di 500mila siriani sono fuggiti nei Paesi vicini nel corso della guerra civile, iniziata con proteste pacifiche a marzo del 2011. Tra i profughi ci sono numerosi attivisti dell'opposizione e soldati disertori.

Comment vas-tu ?

Les gens de Homs disent en plaisantant : "La mort et les balles connaissent notre odeur. Elles nous suivent à la trace. Quand on va à Damas, on les entraîne derrière nous".

C'est exact. Les gens qui fuyaient les zones dévastées sont arrivés à Damas. Et voilà maintenant la mort qui débarque.

A propos des déplacés, laisse-moi te parler de Zeynab. Son visage s’est gravé dans mon esprit, comme si elle m’exhortait à te parler d'elle. C'est une jeune femme d’une vingtaine d’années. Elle est de Khalidyeh, à Homs. Je lui ai demandé : "Qu’est-ce que je peux faire pour toi ?" Elle m’a répondu : "Je veux du travail". Puis elle a baissé les yeux, désignant une petite qui s’accrochait à ses vêtements : "Et du lait pour ma fille".

En regardant Zeynab, j’ai pensé à un enseignant de langue arabe de l’école. Les instituteurs parlaient des "explosions terroristes", de Mezzeh et des combats qui venaient de s'y dérouler le matin même... Le professeur d’arabe a déclaré : "Il faut qu’ils frappent sans pitié les endroits qui abritent ces terroristes. Les endroits qui les protègent, il faut les frapper à nouveau". Puis, élevant la voix : "Ca suffit ! Il faut en finir maintenant ! On en a marre !" Nous l'avons regardé en silence, ravalant nos réactions.

Il me semble que nous allons devoir les ravaler pendant longtemps encore, nos réactions.

Mais je me demande maintenant : parlait-il de Zeynab et de son enfant, par exemple ?

Una grotta per casa... anche questo è la Siria oggi...

Il loro villaggio è stato quasi completamente distrutto dai bombardamenti. Queste famiglie hanno deciso di non allontanarsi dalle loro case, dai loro campi e vivono in grotte. La maggior parte sono donne e bambini, gli uomini sono a combattere, molti sono morti e altri imprigionati. La vita è dura, soffrono il freddo e la fame. Dividono una coperta con i bambini, ma sono al sicuro....

Il gruppo, complessivamente 79 persone, riferisce l'agenzia Anadolu, e' stato trasferito dalle autorita' turche nel campo di Apaydin, vicino ad Antiochia, che ospita i militari siriani disertori e le loro famiglie, e che secondo l'opposizione turca e' una base arretrata dei ribelli sunniti anti-Assad....

A large number of Syrians on Friday heeded a call by the authorities to join weekly Muslim prayers for security and gathered in mosques across the country, the state news agency SANA said.

“Popular participation was broad in the prayer in mosques across Syria for the return of safety and security to the homeland,” SANA said, a day after a Muslim feast in which the authorities called for a “million-man prayer.”

State television broadcast footage of prayers at the Umayyad mosque in central Damascus, showing hundreds of people, as Sheikh Mohammed Said Ramadan al-Bouti, a top cleric frequently featured on television, led the prayer.

“O God, we implore you... in our distress. We beg you not to forget us. We ask for your kindness and for peace and safety across our Syria. We ask for a miracle of your many miracles, to cleanse our country from oppression and of those rogues who commit injustice, murder and slaughter,” he said.

The sheikh also recited a prayer for President Bashar al-Assad.

“Give your servant [Assad] success on his good path,” he said, and called for national unity in the strife-torn country.

“Neither religious differences nor the enemies of religion will separate us,” he said.

Elsewhere on Friday, protesters in flashpoints across Syria held demonstrations calling for the fall of Assad under the slogan: “Our leader for ever, the Prophet Mohammed.”

La tv di Stato siriana non da' invece notizia di vittime, ma afferma che ''i valorosi soldati dell'esercito continuano nella loro azione di lotta contro i terroristi''. Le informazioni non possono essere verificate in maniera indipendente....

Bonsoir.

Je te fais partager ce soir une discussion dont j'ai été le témoin dans mon école. Elle a mis aux prises Catherine, professeur de langue étrangère, une cinquantaine d’années, originaire de Bab Touma, Khudr, surveillant général de l’école, ancien professeur d’instruction militaire, originaire d’un village des environs de Tartous, et Zeynab, professeur d’histoire, originaire de Deir Ezzor.

Catherine a raconté : "Hier, une élève m’a demandé : "Mademoiselle, si le président n’était pas soutenu par l’Amérique, est-ce qu’il aurait pu rester en place ? Regardez Hosni Moubarak : quand les Etats-Unis l'ont laissé tomber, il a démissionné !" Je l’ai mitraillée du regard et je lui ai dit : "Espèce de gourde ! Parce que l’Amérique peut influencer notre président ! Parce que l’Amérique, avec tous ses complots, peut ébranler la Syrie !" Et elle a ajouté avec emportement : "Mais qu’est-ce que c’est que cette génération pourrie ? Ces filles sont stupides et imbéciles ! Le peuple syrien est vraiment arriéré...!"

Khudr, le surveillant général, a renchéri : "L'actuelle génération est stupide et imbécile, parce qu’on lui a retiré de la tête l'empreinte des bottes. Le peuple syrien dans son entier est complètement abruti. De tous les peuples du monde, il n'y a pas plus abruti que le nôtre".

Mais Zeynab a répliqué : "Le peuple syrien, abruti ? Ce n'est pas vrai ! Il n'y a pas mieux que notre peuple. Il n'y a pas de peuple au monde plus héroïque que le nôtre. Moi, maintenant, je suis fière d’être syrienne".

Des dialogues de ce genre, on en entend partout maintenant dans Damas.
